Description
One of the more significant P-40 Kittyhawks in RAAF service during the pacific war. 78 Squadrons “Black Magic” was originally flown and named by F/Lt Denis Baker DFC.
In his hands it scored the last victory of the New Guinea campaign, downing a “Tony“ over Japen Island on 10th June 1944.
This was after he downed a Zero south of Biak in 78 Squadrons biggest action on 3rd June 1944 as depicted in the artwork.
Following the end of Baker’s tour “Black Magic” was handed down to WO Len Waters. The first indigenous pilot to fly for the RAAF.
