Artist's Description

On 30 January 1944, Ira Kepford led one of four VF-17 divisions flying cover for dive and torpedo bombers striking Simpson Harbor, New Britain. Japanese fighters from Rabaul circled the harbor to intercept the bombers. The high cover division led by Blackburn was able to operate with the altitude advantage against enemies, but Kepford's division at 15,000′ was attacked from above by around a dozen enemy fighters. About Mark Donoghue

Mark Donoghue

Founded in 2014, Hangar 7 Art produces historically accurate military aviation prints, apparel, fabrics, commissioned works and other merchandise by Australian born artist Mark Donoghue. “After being a long time collector and researcher of WWII aviation. And starting with nothing more than a passion for my subject, imagination, and few basic computer skills. I began producing aviation artworks. What has evolved is a fusion of photography and various digital art techniques, to bring to life my minds eye view of 20th century military aviation and aerial combat. I find there is a beauty and majesty on the canvas in which these pioneer aviators endured, and inflicted so much horror.” - Mark Donoghue
