Artist's Description
After a dawn patrol, 126 Squadron pilots Flt Sgt Adrian 'Tim' Goldsmith, RAAF (foreground), and Flt Sgt Patrick 'Paddy'Schade, RAF, return to their Malta base in April 1942. Between the two pilots they would claim around 24 Axis aircraft destroyed in the defense of Malta.
Goldsmith would add four more Japanese aircraft in the skies over the Northern Territory, Australia, to finish with a total of 16 aircraft destroyed.
Schade was killed in July 1944 when his Spitfire collided with a Hawker Tempest while pursuing a V-1 flying bomb when flying with 91 Squadron. He had destroyed 12 aircraft and two V-1s at the time of his death.
About Mark Donoghue
Founded in 2014, Hangar 7 Art produces historically accurate military aviation prints, apparel, fabrics, commissioned works and other merchandise by Australian born artist Mark Donoghue. “After being a long time collector and researcher of WWII aviation. And starting with nothing more than a passion for my subject, imagination, and few basic computer skills. I began producing aviation artworks. What has evolved is a fusion of photography and various digital art techniques, to bring to life my minds eye view of 20th century military aviation and aerial combat. I find there is a beauty and majesty on the canvas in which these pioneer aviators endured, and inflicted so much horror.” - Mark Donoghue
