Four RAF 17 Squadron Hawker Hurricanes, led by German born Count Manfred Beckett Czernin (YB-F) and Harold 'Birdy' Bird-Wilson (YB-W), return to their base at Debden after a late patrol during August, 1940. Both pilots were veterans of the fighting over France, and would distinguish themselves during the Battle of Britain. Unusually they had the distinction of both being shot down by noted German Jg26 ace Major Adolf Galland. The two pilots would survive both this encounter and the war to become highly decorated aces.
Founded in 2014, Hangar 7 Art produces historically accurate military aviation prints, apparel, fabrics, commissioned works and other merchandise by Australian born artist Mark Donoghue. “After being a long time collector and researcher of WWII aviation. And starting with nothing more than a passion for my subject, imagination, and few basic computer skills. I began producing aviation artworks. What has evolved is a fusion of photography and various digital art techniques, to bring to life my minds eye view of 20th century military aviation and aerial combat. I find there is a beauty and majesty on the canvas in which these pioneer aviators endured, and inflicted so much horror.” - Mark Donoghue
