Artist's Description

On 27 March, 1953, four RAAF 77 Squadron Meteors on armed reconnaissance spotted a MiG-15 pursuing two American F-80 Shooting Star fighters. Soon two other MiGs joined in & in the ensuing combat RAAF pilot Sgt George Hale flying his Meteor (A77-851) "Hale Storm" probably destroyed 1 MiG & damaged another. Sgt I.D Irlam in Meteor "Black Murray" (A77-446) received major damage and returned safely to base. To this day it remains the last aerial combat involving RAAF aircraft. "Black Murray" was the regular aircraft of Kenneth "Black" Murray who completed 333 sorties during the Korean War. More than any other United Nations pilot during the conflict.

About Mark Donoghue

Mark Donoghue

Founded in 2014, Hangar 7 Art produces historically accurate military aviation prints, apparel, fabrics, commissioned works and other merchandise by Australian born artist Mark Donoghue. “After being a long time collector and researcher of WWII aviation. And starting with nothing more than a passion for my subject, imagination, and few basic computer skills. I began producing aviation artworks. What has evolved is a fusion of photography and various digital art techniques, to bring to life my minds eye view of 20th century military aviation and aerial combat. I find there is a beauty and majesty on the canvas in which these pioneer aviators endured, and inflicted so much horror.” - Mark Donoghue
